I directed this commecial advertising Stone Soup, a magazine that publishes creative writing by children. (The actual production work was done by my colleague Evan Schwartz.) We asked children who had been published in Stone Soup to film themselves answering a list of interview questions, and send us the video clips to review. I sifted through them to find the material that best suited the purpose of the video, which was to show the impact the magazine has on the creative lives of the children who read it. Since we had no control over the video shoot itself, we relied on the sincerity of the children’s testimony to make the case for the magazine, which in the end outweighed the production values, and worked rather well.
