Almost all of my graphic design work has been in the two-dimensional realm. Recently, I decided to take an excursion into the third dimension and explore the design possibilities offered by printing patterns on apparel — in this case, leggings. I made these patterns from scratch in Illustrator. The basic line work was inspired by two classic Art Deco motifs: the fan and the peacock.

The next step will be to print one of these, and see how it looks in the real world. I’m particularly interested in seeing how the colors appear when printed on fabric, and how that compares to the version you see here, on the screen.
